Evidently this does not mean the elimination or interruption of the activity of these professionals in places where other resources are not easy and accessible economically short-term, since its paper of human and social support to the childbirth of the women of these regions still is understood and enaltecido. It means, more concretely, the recommendation not to prioritize this activity in the investment of resources limited, due to concrete evidences on its effectiveness in the reduction of mortality materna (MOURA; IT HISSES, 2004). 1,3 Formation of Obstetra Nurse the professions of nurse, obstetrician, obstetriz and obsttrica nurse, in its origin, formation and professional exercise, are differentiated. Obstetrician is the heading oldest of this professional, later called obsttrica and obstetriz nurse. Nurse obstetra is the denomination most recent and consolidates the nurse formation (substantive), labelled for the titulao of specialist in the area (obstetra, as adjective). Although they seem nuances of lesser importance, they translate modifications in the legislation of education and the conception how much to the formation modality and of the proper profession (RIESCO, 1998). In Brazil, in century XIX, the formal education of obstetricians was initiated next to the medical schools, that had controlled its formation until middle of century XX. The first legal document on the education of obstetricians dates of 1832, when the Doctor-Surgical Academies of Rio De Janeiro and the Bahia had been transformed into Facultieses of Medicine and, between the offered courses the Course of Childbirths was enclosed.
Until then, the women who if dedicated to partejar would have to possess one? examination letter? , granted for Physicist or Surgeon of the Empire, and a license of the Chancellery. Exactly that this law was not obeyed, represented a control principle on the exercise of the activity of the obstetricians for the doctors. Of 1832 up to 1949, all the legislation of the education of obstetricians was contained in the legislation of the education of the medicine.
